National Pie Day (gluten free pie style)

Just so you know, we may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. We have a full affiliate disclosure that you can find under here. I am not a doctor, lawyer, psychiatrist, therapist, or your mother, and I don’t play one on the internet. Do you love gluten free pie?

There are a lot of national holidays but I think National Pie Day (gluten free style) might be one of my favorites!! I know you might be wondering why with all of the holidays there are, but I love this one because everyone (at least I think everyone) can make their favorite. Maybe it is a cherished family favorite. It can be savory or sweet, that’s the beauty of it.

Do you like your Glutne Free Pie Sweet or Savory?

Do you love pie? I do, it’s my favorite dessert. Most of the time I prefer sweet pies versus savory. I have made several different types of pie over the years, but the one I routinely make is pumpkin pie. Primarily because my family LOVES it and would probably revolt if I didn’t, lol.

I will say that I also love a good lemon pie (minus the meringue). I haven’t made it in years, but of course, now I want it, lol. I haven’t made it since my daughter’s Celiac diagnosis and I’m not even sure I still have the recipe I used in the past, but I do feel some experimenting coming on when Spring his and lemons are in season!!

My normal go-to savory pie is homemade (minus the crust, I totally cheat there) turkey pot pie. Even my super picky eater of a son loves it!! It’s a great way to use up leftover turkey after Thanksgiving.  Another favorite savory “pie” of mine is Shepherds Pie – yes, I know it isn’t a traditional pie in terms of crust, but it is still a classic favorite.

A new savory appetizer I recently learned to make is veggie pizza. It is to die for!! It’s a cold pizza that I have used ready made pie crust as the base and it works out really well.

Do you prefer sweet or savory?

Crusts

As you may know from my Thanksgiving posts, I’m not much for making my own pie crusts. I have attempted once or twice over the years, but I prefer to “cheat” and go for the semi-homemade buy buying frozen ready-made crusts. It’s kinda my thing. I have pinned several gluten free pie crust recipes but can never bring myself to try them (sad, I know).

Are you a proponent of semi-homemade or homemade?

My Go-To Brand of Gluten Free Pie Crust

Before the Celiac diagnosis, I swore by Pilsbury’s refrigerated pie crusts. I would stock up before the holidays and freeze them so I was ready to get my bake on when I felt the desire.

Post Celiac diagnosis, I had to venture out and try to find something that appealed to my laziness and tastebuds. I came across the brand Wholly Wholesome gluten free frozen pie crusts. I found them at Sprouts, but I know Whole Foods also carries them. You get two per pack. They have worked well for me when making pumpkin pie and the veggie pizza.

We have a fabulous gluten free bakery here in Las Vegas called Senza Gluten Free Bakery. Over the holidays, you could order and buy premade pie crusts, similar to what Pillsbury offers (individually rolled and wrapped). I love their pie crusts because they are rolled so it makes them more versatile for me.
