A Gluten Free Thanksgiving: Gluten Free Pie Crust Edition
If you know me at all, you know I am more of a semi-homemade kind of baker. I love to bake, but I am not a fan of making pie crust from scratch. I don’t know why, probably because I am lazy, lol.
Back in the day, prior to my daughter’s Celiac diagnosis, I was a huge fan of Pilsbury’s refrigerated pie crusts (shocker, I know, lol). They always turned out well, were flaky, and more importantly, they tasted yummy! I have been given recipes, cookbooks, etc. on how to make THE perfect pie crust, but alas, I never use them. gluten free pie crust
Now that the house is pretty much gluten free for our daughter, I needed to find an alternative because the world would come to a screeching halt if I actually made one from scratch, trust me!
I was able to find only one brand, Wholly Wholesome, that offered a frozen pie crust, I looked for more options this year as I am sure there have to be others, but this was the only pre-made one that I could find at Sprouts or Whole Foods. Do to life, I did shop a little late at Whole Foods so they may carry others, or if I tried a different one, I might find other options.
We were pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t the same as what I had been using, but it was still tasty and everyone loved it so I will take that as a win. gluten free pie crust
Good To Know
Be advised, they offer regular and gluten free options. The packaging is slightly different but if you were in a rush, you might grab the wrong one. The best part, this crust is dairy free, wheat free, casein free, peanut free, tree nut free, and sesame seed free. That’s a lot of “frees”, but that is the best part! The other freaking awesome part, they have a dedicated bakehouse for this line so no cross contamination – woohoo!!!! gluten free pie crust
