Is your little witch or wizard trying to keep their energy up so they can train to be on their house Quidditch team? If you answered yes, then you need to try one of these (or maybe all of them, lol) 5 easy snacks for your witch or wizard!
5 Easy Snacks for you Witch or Wizard
I don’t know about you, but I can get tired just from watching my little witch and wizard run around the house, lol. They have so much energy. One minute they are flying around the back field playing Quidditch with their friends, the next minute all kids are in my house starving. I swear all they do is eat!
Before my kids received their letters to Hogwarts, they were very active in swimming (a muggle sport). Because they were swimming for a couple of hours almost every day, I needed to find a way to get some extra calories into them, especially items that had a lot of protein. The issue was that my son is rather picky. Fortunately, our daughter isn’t, but it still became a challenge to find something they both liked.
The following snacks have been approved by my witch and wizard, hopefully, yours will enjoy them as well!
Bludgers, Snitches, and Quaffles
First up on our list of 5 easy snacks for your witch or wizard are bludgers, snitches, and quaffles! Muggles call them Power Up Bliss Balls. What I love about protein balls is that they are so versatile! You can make them vegan, you can add dried fruit or mini chocolate chips, roll them in different things such as graham cracker crumbs, coconut, chopped nuts, etc. Really, the only limit is your imagination.
Now, I have tried a lot of different versions of protein balls and it took me a while to find a good base that I could tweak to what my kids preferences. For example, mine won’t eat dried fruit in anything – they are weird, what can I say, lol.
I love that the sweetness is from dates and I rarely have hemp hearts on hand so I use ground flaxseed or chia seeds since I always use those. I also love almond butter, but my witch and wizard prefer peanut butter. I use an all natural peanut butter as well. If you have a nut allergy, you can use your favorite nut-free butter as well.
I also add mini chocolate chips to mine and roll them in gluten-free graham cracker crumbs. Those are what my kids prefer, but experiment and get your witch and wizard involved in making them.
I always freeze mine since you can take them out and thaw them rather quickly. My kids used to pack them in their lunches when they went to a muggle school. They were always thawed by lunch time!
Next up on our journey through 5 easy snacks for your witch or wizard is Beater Cookies! Now the name of these may not sound appetizing, but rest assured, they are super tasty! Muggles prefer the name Superhero Breakfast Cookies. Don’t let the name fool you, these aren’t just for breakfast! I chose the name Beater Cookies because they pack quite the nutrient punch, just like the beaters on the Quidditch pitch!
Similarly to the protein balls, these cookies can be personalized your witch or wizard taste buds! I haven’t altered this recipe much since we really enjoyed them just as they were. I do know that the next time I make them, I will use our Power Up Chocolate Protein Powder instead of our Vanilla Optimum Vegan Protein Blend just to try something different. In my opinion, you can never have enough chocolate, LOL.
If your witch or wizard has Celiacs and cannot tolerate oats, then you can substitute the oats for an equal amount of ground flax, quinoa flakes, rice bran or chia seeds. I haven’t tried this yet as our Celiac can tolerate gluten-free oats.
The Chaser’s Concoction
The Chaser on the Quidditch is constantly on the move trying to steal the quaffle and score a goal!! They need to have quick reflexes, keen eyes and be agile on their broom. In order to be able to do all of that, they might need a little energy boost from the Chaser’s Concoction! Muggles normally refer to this as a Smoothie.
The Chaser’s Concoction can be served in a cauldron (bowl) or in a goblet (cup). I’m not sure the wizarding community has “to-go” dinner wear, but I know muggles do. If you have a shaker cup, then you can make your Chaser’s Concoction a head of practice so it’s ready for you when you need it!
I use a basic “formula base” and change up the ingredients based on what I am in the mood for. When it comes to the kids, it’s always fruit themed. Basically, I can add whatever I want to their smoothies as long as it tastes like strawberries and banana, lol.
For the base:
- 1c of liquid (water, milk, non-dairy milk, etc.)
- 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder*
- 1c of your favorite frozen fruit (I normally do a berry mix for my kids)
- 1 small to medium banana (frozen is better, but fresh works too)
- 1 handful of fresh or frozen greens like spinach or kale
- 1/4 avocado for a healthy fat (1 tbs flaxseed)
*A scoop of Epicure’s protein has 1,000 mg of potassium in it! Since toddlers only need about 3,000 mg of potassium a day, we recommend using ¼ or ½ scoop of the protein blend when making smoothies for children since children often eat a lot of potassium-rich foods like milk, yogurt, bananas, and tomatoes.
I throw it all in a blender in whir it up. You sometimes need to add more liquid depending on the thickness you are looking for. There are so many variations that you can easily change it up. I make the Chaser’s Concoction every morning for breakfast for my husband and I – so they aren’t just for little witches and wizards!
What do you think? Do your like the Chaser’s Concoction as one of the 5 easy snacks for your witch or wizard?
They Keeper needs a quick snack because they have to protect three goal posts, THREE!!! That’s a lot of area to cover and it isn’t always easy. Do you remember Ron’s try outs? Granted, his nerves really got to him that day and if Hermione hadn’t performed the confundus charm on Cormac, Ron would not have made the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
The Keeper’s Powerbar is a the muggle version of a granola bar. Again, like above, these can be tailored to your witches or wizards preferences. That’s the beauty of these snacks! Not all witches and wizards like the same things (how boring would that be if they all did!).
Also, just like before, you can substitute the oats for something your Celiac prefers as well. I think the Keeper’s Powerbars make a great addition to 5 easy snacks for your witch or wizard!
Last on the 5 easy snacks for your witch or wizard. It may be the last, but it’s definitely not the least – the Seeker Suffusion. What is a suffusion you might ask? It’s a dip, lol. Come on, I was on a roll, I had to find a cools name for the Seeker too!
Seeker Suffusion is what muggles call Summer Berry Sweet Dip. Summer Berry Sweet Dip is super quick to make (those Seekers don’t have time dilly dally!) and can be enjoyed by itself or used as a dip for apples. You can also use it to make a parfait with layers of Summer Berry Sweet Dip, mixed fresh berries, and nuts or granola.
All you need is Summer Berry Sweet Dip and plain Greek yogurt. Now some little witches and wizards are not fans of plain greek yogurt. Instead of buying vanilla yogurt, just add vanilla to the plain Greek yogurt. Many manufacturers add additional items, such as sugar, when making vanilla yogurt.
5 Easy Snacks for your Witch or Wizard – Wrap Up
So how did I do? Do you think you little witch or wizard would enjoy one of these easy snacks? Even if you witch or wizard is not so little (mine are 14/16 and both are way taller than I am) these snacks are still amazing and easy!
I love that many can be made ahead and frozen so you always have something on hand. You know, for those times where you planned, grocery shopped, and somehow they eat everything within 48 hours, lol. Got to love growth spurts, lol.
